Emeline Winston
Emeline has extensive experience of the museum and exhibition world gleaned from twenty years at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, and over a decade of subsequent consultancy roles.
As Head of Exhibitions Organisation at the RA, Emeline was responsible for the development, management and production of all exhibitions, installations, and exhibition programming, working closely with curators to create and produce a diverse range of blockbuster exhibitions.
Emeline ran negotiations with other museums internationally to establish multi-venue exhibition tours, including agreeing contracts and fee structures and all relevant liaisons between venues and lenders. She also led the often detailed and complex loan requests with museums and private collectors. Working on larger survey exhibitions involved building relationships and agreeing contracts with international state bodies or embassies to enable cultural exchanges such as with Russia, China, Mexico, and Turkey.
Emeline managed the Exhibitions, Conservation, and Photographic teams internally and the external exhibition consultants, including guest curators, exhibition designers, and graphic designers.
In 2011, after a year of consultancy at the British Museum, Emeline and Sian set up Caring for Your Collection.
Sian Flynn
Sian brings more than twenty-five years of experience developing and delivering exhibition and permanent display projects, with particular skills in directing content, curatorial research and writing.
Before becoming an independent curator and museum consultant in 2007, she managed a rich programme of international exhibitions and contemporary art commissions as the director responsible for displays at Royal Museums Greenwich. Her role required regular and careful negotiations to borrow privately owned artefacts to display within blockbuster exhibitions, including Elizabeth I (2003) and Nelson & Napoleon (2005). She also oversaw a range of contemporary art installations and oversaw new permanent astronomy galleries in the redeveloped Royal Observatory Greenwich.
She has worked on projects with clients as diverse as Westminster Abbey, King’s College Cambridge, the University of Oxford, the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Farrer & Co, the British Museum, the Metropolitan Police, Heathrow Airport, Greater Manchester Fire Service, the Worshipful Company of Joiners and Ceilers, and the Houses of Parliament. Her work has often required a sensitive balance of academic research with the needs and expectations of audiences. She is highly experienced in the nuanced display of artefacts, with a view to maintaining their aesthetic and interpretive integrity.
More recently, Sian has undertaken a number of senior interim management and consultancy roles for clients such as National Museums Scotland, the National Portrait Gallery and the Henry Moore Institute. These types of roles within major cultural institutions ensure that the team at Caring for Your Collection is in touch with the strategic direction of some of our foremost museums and galleries.
